My name is Olivia Anderson and at just 24 years of age, I have been incredibly fortunate with the opportunities and experiences that have come my way since beginning my career as a helicopter pilot some 5 years ago. I am truly just a youngen in this industry but have been so so lucky to work with a wide range of pilots, both young and old, who have taken the time to help me long this path and who have also spun countless jaw dropping yarns along the way.
My desire to fly began in my teenage years. Growing up on and around cattle stations, R22s were a tool of the trade in mustering together mobs of cattle out in the Aussie bush. A fire got lit within when I went for my first spin in the passenger seat - a short jaunt because my motorbike had broken down in the middle of the paddock and I needed a lift back to the ute to retrieve it. Eyes wide and butterflies in my tummy I distinctly remember thinking ‘this is the coolest office in the world’.
Since then I have gone on to complete my commercial pilots licence, working as a mustering pilot in the remote Kimberley and Northern Territory of Australia, flying air work ops across various parts of Aus - aerial shooting, incendiary dropping, weed surveying, just to name a few. My most recent venture has taken me across the Tasman Ocean to the beautiful New Zealand where I am trying my hand at the world of tourism and turbines, flying through the glorious mountains and glaciers of the Southern Westlands. I know this is only just the beginning and this surreal “job” will take me around the world as it has done for many pilots.
I have begun creating this platform with the premise of sharing stories from the characters I meet along the way - a little insight to the possibilities and stories a career in aviation can bring. I hope to also highlight the various industries which these stories come from and provide information, tips and tricks which I struggled to find through my journey.
Thanks for following along and keep it in the green friends x
